Getting the Apothecary first offers protection for your existing players but delays getting that final slow to skill Black Orc. You’ve got 30k left over which you can spend on Dedicated Fans, or save towards either the Apothecary or the last Black Orc. Ideally you’d prefer to start with all the Black Orcs as they are slow to get skills and fitting the Troll in also means not starting with the Apothecary. The advantage here is that you maintain a more desirable number of starting rerolls and also the Throw Team mate option. If you sacrifice starting with a Black Orc then you can fit in three rerolls and the Troll. You’ve got a single obvious target which you can save up for (barring injuries) and how much will you really miss not having Throw Team Mate straight away? Troll and 3 Rerolls Black Orcs Quantity Trolls are pretty unreliable players and not many teams are going to be stronger in the trenches. Bruisers are a bit tougher than a normal Goblin and have a slightly better chance to stay on the pitch if they do face an injury roll. They do have quite high armour and not having a Troll means not only an extra Goblin Bruiser on the pitch, but that it’s harder to keep them screened off from the opposition. This team gets you eleven players but fits in an Apothecary to give the Black Orcs some back up. Starting with all your expensive players means you’re only really saving up for the Apothecary and then more rerolls, unless you sustain an injury or death No Troll + Apothecary Black Orcs Quantity The downside here is only two rerolls for a team that doesn’t start with many traditionally strong skills.Īlternatively you might want to save the extra 45k from that twelfth player and guarantee you have the funds for an Apothecary after game one. You can squeeze in twelve total players giving you either a substitute option from injury or perhaps let you be a bit more frivolous when it comes to fouling.

Unfortunately you’re 5k short from being able to afford an Apothecary. Having the Troll also enables you to have a Throw Team Mate scoring option. This gives a higher chance that the MVP will land on these slow to skill players and one less Goblin Bruiser on the pitch makes it easier to hide them from opponents. You get all seven of your ST4+ players from the get go.

I think this will be a popular choice for a lot of coaches. There are downsides to each option which makes it tricky to decide how you want to start and frustratingly some options are just 5k over the starting budget! One of the new teams added to Blood Bowl Second Season, they don’t have many different players to pick from but there are still some different starting options to consider.
